This is for all students enrolled at CUNY colleges including City, Brooklyn, Hunter, and Staten Island. Two very important opportunities available this semester to students, Asian and non-Asian, enrolled at the City University of New York (CUNY).
CUNY Thomas Tam Scholarship
Application Deadline: Wednesday, April 15, 2009
Funded through an endowment by CUNY in recognition of the late Dr. Thomas Tam’s contributions as a former member of the CUNY Board of Trustees, Executive Director of the Asian American / Asian Research Institute, and leadership in the Asian American community, the Scholarship awards $1,000 annually to an individual qualified undergraduate student currently enrolled at CUNY, who has demonstrated creativity in the communication of the concerns of the Asian American community in areas such as Health, Education and Culture.
The display of this communication can be in the form of written reports, film, video, new media techniques, and the development of performances or materials in the Arts and Sciences.
Last year’s CUNY Thomas Tam Scholarship recipient was Olivia Lin, an undergraduate student at Hunter College for her project, Founding of the Coalition for the Revitalization of Asian American Studies at Hunter (CRAASH).
6th Annual CUNY Asian American Film Festival
Submission Deadline: Monday, May 12, 2009
Since 2004, the CUNY Asian American Film Festival has awarded over $4,700 in cash prizes to students enrolled at CUNY colleges including City, Brooklyn, Hunter, and Staten Island. The Festival promotes the artistic visual talents and stimulates communication among CUNY students who are separated by the different campuses spread across the five boroughs, and serve as a central location to display their creative works among colleagues involved in the same field of study.
Winner and runner-up prizes will be awarded in the categories of Fiction; Documentary; and Experimental film. The competition is open to all students, whether or not they are majoring in Film or Media.
