The world’s most beautiful woman is set to star in upcoming British-production period film, ‘Taj’ opposite Oscar-winning Hollywood veteran Sir Ben Kingsley. Aishwarya Rai will play the character of Mumtaz Mahal, the 17th century Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan’s beloved spouse.
The storyline revolves around the unconditional love of a ruler towards his dead third wife which led to the construction of a world renowned architectural marvel. The screenplay for the approximately $30 million motion picture is written by Brit scriptwriter, David Ashton. The making of this major production is to commence around July next year.
In the beginning, the role of Shah Jahan was prearranged to be portrayed by the son of Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, ‘Dhoom’ actor Abishek who also happens to be the former Miss World’s real-life husband. Due to commitment with other pre-scheduled plans, the 33 year-old was forced to bail out from the project. Luckily enough, 65 year-old Kingsley then promptly fills in the position.
Kingsley had previously worked with the green-eyed actress on a straight-to-video production called ‘The Last Legion’. Kingsley is best known for his brilliant portrayal of Indian freedom fighter Gandhi in 1982. After 27 years, the actor who is of Indian-Jewish decent is all set to take on the role of another prominent figure in Indian history. Kingsley’s paternal grandparents are from Gujerat, which is also the birthplace of Gandhi, and Kingsley’s birth name is Krishna Bhanji.
