Miral is directed by artist/filmmaker Julian Schnabel, of acclaimed films Basquiat, Before Night Falls and Oscar nominated The Diving Bell and the Butterfly previously. The screenplay was written by Rula Jebreal, who also wrote the book that it’s based on. The Weinstein Company recently set a December 3rd release date here in the US for Miral.
Miral tells the story of four women whose lives intertwine in a starkly human search for justice, hope and reconciliation amid a world overshadowed by conflict, rage and war. A chronicle of Hind Husseini’s effort to build an orphanage in Jerusalem after the 1948 partition of Palestine and creation of the state of Israel.
The main character in the film, Freida Pinto, lives in an orphanage setup in Jerusalem by Hind Husseini.
What a beautifully made film and looks like Freida Pinto is making a serious career for herself in Hollywood.
