As promised Apple has launched the Macintosh version of its App Store, hoping to repeat the success the company has enjoyed with selling apps for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
The Mac App Store is actually part of an update to OS X 10.6, taking the version number up to 10.6.6. On my MacBook Pro, the download size was just over 114 megabytes. Sorry, Leopard and Tiger users, it’s only available to those running Snow Leopard.
Once the update is in place, you’ll find a new icon in your Mac’s Dock, to the right of the Finder. It looks like the recently revamped iTunes icon, but with the familiar pencil/brush/ruler images aligned in the shape of an A.
Click on it and the App Store will open.
