RBS names Sherry Liu as China chairman and chief executive officer, in a bid to bolster its business in the country. Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has appointed Sherry Liu as chairman and chief executive officer of RBS China, a newly created position.
Liu will be responsible for overseeing and driving the bank’s overall business strategy in China across banking, markets, wealth and various joint venture investee companies in the country. She will report jointly to John McCormick, RBS Asia-Pacific chairman and Matthew Kirkby, regional head of global banking, both based in Hong Kong. She will also join the global banking Asia-Pacific management team.
Liu was mostly recently with JP Morgan Chase, where she was chairman for China financial institutions and vice-chairman for China. She has 15 years’ experience in China’s investment banking industry. RBS’s former China country executive Charles Li left the bank in January. His role was assumed by Lawrence Lam, chairman of Greater China, global banking and markets.
