Kristina Janolo, Miss Florida 2011, is coming to Washington this week to tell members of Congress about the importance of Everglades restoration.
Janolo of Kissimmee is the first Asian-American to become Miss Florida and the first to make Everglades restoration her cause, as she prepares for the Miss America title in January.
While meeting with members from Florida on Wednesday and Thursday, she will speak about the Everglades on Thursday evening at Florida House, the state’s visitors’ hub and meeting place.
She already has filmed public service announcements for the Everglades Foundation, which promotes restoration funding in Tallahasse and Washington.
Her visit comes amid discussion about whether to expand oil drilling in the ‘Glades, an idea promoted by Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann.
