Now that it’s summer, it’s a great time to reflect and think about taking on a new hobby or learning something new. Asiance had a chance to experience an hour at Kristin Hanson’s fine jewelry school. While we have always had a great appreciation of fine jewelry, now that we had to make a piece, we will never look at a piece of bling jewelry the same, after you realize the labor intensive process of creating one. To get inspired, upstairs Kristen displays her beautiful pieces inspired by the sea through a few different collections – Kristin Hanson Couture which uses gold and colored diamonds, as well as her diffusion line Kiki by Kristin Hanson, which features silver and semi precious stones. In an hour, Kristin showed us the traditional way goldsmiths create their pieces from a single sheet of brass and how to create a patter, cut with a jewelry saw, and later polish and finish the edges. For anything more extensive, you would need to take her classes which have short course programs that range from 36 to 420 hours or 8 months to 2 year programs in order to master the craft.
