Born in China and raised in Hong Kong, the Chinese American designer Vivenne Tam showed her new Spring Collection in Lincoln Center.
“Metal, wood, water, fire and earth,” said Vivenne. The five elements from Chinese Cosmology made up the five groups of clothing in her show. Different patterns and color represent these five elements, respectively. Though the clothes were divided into five groups, the whole collection had one cohesive and persistent highlight—repetitive and geometrical pattern. Red triangles, black hexagons, black and white lines and dotted pattern were either used individually or combined on dresses and pants.
My personal favorite is a black lace dress with dots that are beautifully lined up. It reminds me of the traditional China paper cut that usually stands for good luck and prosperity. The little black dress is so classy and modern at the same time that I can imagine wearing it for any occasion.
Besides the gorgeous clothing, Vivienne Tam also invited TSL–a famous Chinese jewelry line, to complete the runway look. The jade and pearl pieces are typically used in ancient China, giving the outfits a even more delicate taste.
