Everything about the second inauguration of President Obama is expected to be more low-key than four years ago, including the size of the crowd (probably half the 1.8 million of 2009) and the quota of entertainment stars, celebrities and other boldfaced names.
Here’s where you might find some of these elusive creatures:
St Jude Ball: A fundraising ball at the Hamilton Hotel to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Hosted by CNN’s Roland and Jacquie Martin, expected guests include Eva Longoria, Cornel West and Michael Eric Dyson.
Kids’ Inaugural Concert: Michelle Obama and Jill Biden host event for the children of military families and invited guests at the Washington Convention Center. Among the performers scheduled are Alicia Keys, Brad Paisley, Far East Movement, fun., Glee cast members, John Legend, Katy Perry, Marc Anthony, Mindless Behavior, Nick Cannon, Smokey Robinson, Soul Children of Chicago, Stevie Wonder and Usher.
Blisspop Inauguration Party: Moby will be the DJ at the U Street Music Hall.
Latinos In Performance at the Kennedy Center: Actress Eva Longoria co-hosts, with a coalition of leading Latino organizations, a celebration of Latino contributions to American culture and politics, and especially how they were crucial to the re-election of President Obama. Among the performers participating are Raúl Esparza, José Feliciano, Melanie Griffith, George Lopez, Rita Moreno, Chita Rivera, Robert Rodriguez, Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner, Ballet Hispanico, the Esperanza Azteca Youth Orchestra and the Pan American Symphony Orchestra.
Pennsylvania Society Inaugural Gala: Queen Latifah will perform at the Ritz-Carlton.
Hip-Hop Inaugural Ball: Russell Simmons and Pharrell Williams are scheduled to appear at the Harman Center for the Arts.
Swearing-in Ceremony: Beyoncé will sing the National Anthem. James Taylor will sing America the Beautiful. Kelly Clarkson will sing My Country, ‘Tis of Thee.
Inaugural Balls: There will be two this time (compared to 10 last time), both at the Washington Convention Center.The Commander-in-Chief Ball will be the smaller (about 4,000 people expected), for military invited guests. The Inaugural Ball will be for everyone else (about 35,000). Planners have not yet said which entertainers will be performing, but they will be from the same list as the Kids’ Concert: Alicia Keys, Brad Paisley, Far East Movement, fun., Glee cast members, John Legend, Katy Perry, Marc Anthony, Mindless Behavior, Nick Cannon, Smokey Robinson, Soul Children of Chicago, Stevie Wonder and Usher.
Creative Coalition Ball: A fundraising gala at the Harman Center for Arts (tickets cost $10,000 — $100,000) is expected to be celebrity central. The Goo Goo Dolls will headline but a long list of other film, TV and musical artists will be there, including David Arquette, Kirsten Dunst, Ashley Greene of Twilight, Chelsea Handler, The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki, Modern Family’s Eric Stonestreet, Nashville star Connie Britton, Oscar winner Melissa Leo, Paula Abdul, Omar Epps, Alan Cumming, Taraji P. Henson, Marlon Wayans, Tim Daly, Matt Bomer, Giancarlo Esposito, John Leguizamo, Alfre Woodard, Evan Handler, Richard Schiff, Wayne Knight and Richard Kind.
The Recording Industry Inaugural Benefit: Ke$sha will headline the musicians charity benefit at the 9:30 Club in Washington.
Artists Making an Impact: Golden Globe winner Lena Dunham, Will.i.am, Chris Tucker, Sophia Bush, Kate Walsh and Allison Williams are among those scheduled to be at a cocktail reception and buffet dinner at the restaurant Oya.
Out For Equality Celebration: Cyndi Lauper is scheduled to perform at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel.
