Freida Pinto has reportedly walked out of her Bollywood debut.
NH10 was scheduled to begin shooting on March 25 but was delayed after the producers pulled out of the project.
A source close to the Slumdog Millionaire star told The Times of India: “Freida was told that NH10 will go on floors on March 25. She had several meetings with Phantom Productions at their Andheri office. Later, she was informed that it would start in June.
“Now, they are telling her that it will not flag off before October. How long can Freida keep blocking her dates and keep her other commitments on hold? She was irritated with the tardiness of the producers, even though she was quite excited about doing the film.
“Freida even roped in international financiers for the film, who have now walked out. The delay was inexplicable.”
The 27-year-old actress, who was to play a detective in the film starring Raj Kumar Yadav and directed by Navdeep Singh, was also said to be unhappy that she did not receive a bound script.
Vikramaditya Motwane of Phantom said in response: “We had to shift the shoot dates. Unfortunately, Freida could not accommodate the revised schedule in her calendar.”
The producers have reportedly stated that they propose to replace Pinto with a more ‘commercial’ heroine, citing Sonam Kapoor as their next choice.
The actress hosted a dinner for several Bollywood directors and was reportedly approached by Shoojit Sircar for a role in Madras Café, which finally went to Nargis Fakhri.
Pinto is currently shooting Desert Dancer, the true story of Afshin Ghaffarian, who risked his life to become a dancer in Iran where dance is illegal.
ohhh ouch! Sonam always seems to have time for her commitments!
