Two biopics on the fascinating life of Ramanujan, which has all the twists and turns of a gripping story, are currently in the making.
The first one stars actor Dev Patel of “Slumdog Millionaire” fame, who will be seen playing the role of Ramanujan. The untitled film is based on the book “The Man Who Knew Infinity: A Life of the Genius Ramanujan,” written by Robert Kanigel. The film is being produced by Prashita Chaudhary and Hollywood producer Edward R Pressman. The shoot of the film will start in September, and will take place mainly in India and London, where Ramanujan came up with his mathematical theories and analysis.
The second biopic, a Tamil-English bilingual, has young actor Abhinay playing Ramanujan on the silver screen. Abhinay is the grandson of Gemini Ganesan.
Ramanujan was born Dec. 22, 1887 in Erode, Tamil Nadu. He died at the very young age of 32. The mathematician and autodidact had no formal training in pure mathematics. But, in a short span of life, the brilliant mathematician came up with some of the most significant contributions in the field of mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series and continued fractions.
