This is one of my absolute favorite things for the Holiday Season and it will appear on “Marisa Sung’s List of Favorite Things For The Holiday Season” 🙂 John lived with his wife of fifty years, Ginny, in Kansas, Missouri and the Virgin Islands before retiring to Florida. They have two lovely daughters. (Their youngest daughter was adopted at age four and came from Vietnam.) John taught high school social studies for 38 years and later managed a Science Museum. Ginny was a meetings planner and executive in a Trade Association Company. Ginny has sewn since age 10 and has made many creative quilts in recent years. John learned to make baskets after retiring and moving to Florida. He took the basic techniques and created an art form in coiled pine needle baskets. (He recently won a blue ribbon at the Estero Fine Arts Show.) John has also sung professionally and enjoys musical theatre and choral singing. My mother enjoys the same interests and has been involved in musical theatre since I was a small child! Both John and my mother appeared in productions such as “Oklahoma,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” and “The Pajama Game” to name but a few! 🙂
Each one of John’s baskets is unique and one-of-a-kind! It generally takes him at least one month to make each basket give or take a few weeks. Every basket tells a story and has a significant name. For instance, the baskets featured each contain a theme.
These baskets are a favorite of Courtney Love. She loves his baskets so much that she often gives them as gifts to her close friends such as Gwyneth Paltrow! John’s Baskets are featured on Etsy.com. John also makes customized baskets upon demand. If you would like to purchase one of John’s one-of-a-kind baskets, please go to www.johnsbasketcase.etsy.com
