It was actually nice to see an Asian American holding an Emmy. Mark Jocson of Disney was proud to hold his Emmy but seemed a bit shy to pose. We actually weren't sure what he won it for. Sad commentary though was when he told the photogs who he was, he totally Americanized the pronunciation of his last name to Jock Son instead of the actually pronunciation of huck son. That is just like a Latino saying my last name is Martin ez instead of mar tee nez. Oh well, we as Asian Americans still have a long road to visibility on mainstream television and being proud of our ethnic heritage which includes emphasizing the unique sounds of our last names.

He won, nuff said
We should focus on the positive -- he won and it's a great accomplishment, period.September 26, 2008 - 9:17am
Understand what author is saying
I understand what he is saying. He is not discounting the fact that he won an emmy. He thinks it's great but he just wouldn't it be great if he pronounced his name correctly ethnic wise, not Americanizing it. I don't think he is shitting on it as you so eloquently put it.September 25, 2008 - 10:52am
Great Achievement!
I agree with the previous post. Criticizing the winner of this Emmy for the way he pronounces his last name is not only silly but is also a setback to the goals this magazine attempts to achieve. The fact Asian American’s are succeeding in the entertainment industry should be celebrated by this magazine not shit on!!September 24, 2008 - 9:41pm
Just Be Proud He Won!
Criticizing him for how he pronounces his last name is petty. We should be proud, in and of itself, that he won an Emmy. His visibility is a major accomplishment. How he, or his family, choose to pronounce their last name is irrelevant. My name is Aaron. Should I be criticized because my family didn't give me a traditional chinese name? No. My accomplishments as an Asian are what matter.Post new comment
