Tips from Tina: Beauty & Fashion 411

Question:

I am getting married and am trying to figure out what type of jewelry to wear with my dress. My dress is a romantic princess style dress with a deep round neckline. There is beading all over the dress as well. What can I wear to compliment it without it taking away or blending in with my dress?

Answer: You definitely want the focus to be on your wedding dress. I would suggest an ornate pair of earrings (with pearls, crystals, or both) and a bracelet. With your ornate dress, you don't really need a necklace.

... dress for the job you eventually want to have. You will always be remembered for being well dressed.

Question:

I have an afterwork cocktail event but don't have time to go home to change. What can I wear that will work for the day and the night?

Answer: You definitely want to wear separates so that you can take off the jacket and get your "evening look". I suggest a suit with a pencil skirt, and a silk/satin camisole underneath your jacket. For your cocktail event, you just have to take off your suit jacket and you have your sexy evening look. You might want to bring a pair of sparkly chandelier earrings or long dangly earrings which you can wear to your cocktail event. The jewelry will complete your evening cocktail outfit.

Question:

I am starting my first job out of college and am a little unsure of what to wear in a dressy casual job environment?

Answer: I believe you are always best looking more dressed up rather than less as you want to make your best impression. Advice I had given to me straight out of college was to dress for the job you eventually want to have. You will always be remembered for being well dressed.

I'm an aspiring Jewelry designer. Do recommend going to school, taking a course or learn as you go?

    Gina,
I don't believe you need to go to school formally, but it is also a matter of personal preference. There is a lot to learn in a school, but just know that you can do it without as well. By taking courses from continuing education places and hobby classes, you can learn as well.

I had a formally trained bench jewelry designer tell me that he felt that the 7 years of apprenticeship was unncessary and that to succeed, you need passion, sense for business and design ideas.

Good luck to you!
