Interview with Sachiko Ishida
Sachiko Ishida is an actress, writer, producer, and model. She was born in Kyoto, Japan and moved to Los Angeles to pursue her career in acting. Sachiko has had a creative streak since she was little. She loves drawing, making stories, taking pictures, and is now working on her first feature.
Asiance: How did you like Los Angeles when you first arrived?
Sachiko: I thought the weather was nice…the people and driving, not so much.
Asiance: Tell us about your newest project, “Suika”. What is it about?
Sachiko: It is a comedy that takes place at a restaurant. It is a fun, family movie.
Asiance: I hear you are teaming up to form a new production company. What type of work will you do?
Sachiko: We just made a short film called “The Sushi Bar”. My partner for the company, Mio Takada san, he is also a Japanese, and I want to keep our cultural background and originality in our work instead of copying or trying to make Hollywood films.
Asiance: You are quite an accomplished actress as well. I remember you appeared in “He’s Just Not Into You” with Jennifer Aniston. What was that like?
Sachiko: I just played very small part in it. It was fun though. I definitely want to accomplish more. (laughs) Although we (Asian/Japanese actresses) have more chances than probably 10-20 years ago, but still, it is challenging. Also, if the role was really a big Japanese role, they tend to cast Japanese celebrities, so I am working on my accent to be able to play wider varieties of roles.
Asiance: You have been modeling for awhile and have a strong portfolio. Any advice for women who may want to work in the modeling industry?
Sachiko: I advise eating healthy and going to the gym every day. I personally like natural looking people, not fake, and (depends on the type of modeling but) it seems like real looking people are more in now.
Asiance: Where do you see yourself in five years?
Sachiko: I would like to be able to work WHEN I want, and live where I want to live.
Asiance: Favorite Colors?
Sachiko: Blue, Pink, Purple
Asiance: Favorite movie?
Sachiko: “OLD BOY”, “Shawshank Redemption”
Asiance: What takes up most of your time?
Sachiko: Editing and working out. When I am at home, I am usually in front of my big computer editing some footage, and also I go training pretty often.
Asiance: Guilty Pleasure:
Sachiko: I sometimes crave a big piece of strawberry short cake with whipped cream. It is hard to find a good one in LA, but I know a couple of places that sell good ones.
Asiance: Favorite de-stresser?
Sachiko: Korean Spa!!
Asiance: Relationship Status?
Sachiko: Single and very happy.
Asiance: What do you like in a guy?
Sachiko: I like manly man. Manly looks and personality, both.
Asiance: Pet Peeve?
Sachiko: People who keep their towel on one machine at the gym while they are using other machine, and as soon as I try to use it they come back and say, “Oh, I still have one more set”. To me, it is ridiculous.
Asiance: Your “Go To” Food?
Sachiko: My favorite food is sushi.
Asiance: Fun Fact about you?
Sachiko: You will know when you meet me!
