Google to open Thai offices
Google will continue its Southeast Asian expansion by opening up offices in Bangkok this year. This marks the company’s second local operation this year – the first in Kuala Lumpur which opened in January this year,
“Southeast Asia is coming into prominence but not much of content about the region is available on the Internet. With over 120 million people online in the region, we are particularly excited about growth in the region,” Julian Persaud, the managing director for Google in Southeast Asia, said during an interview.
The region is the company’s fastest growing market. Google’s Chrome browser is the leading browser in Malaysia and the Philippines.
Google aims to hire about 500 staff members in Asia this year, with up to one-fifth in Southeast Asia. The company is also making investments in localized products such as its online translation service and maps.
