Kal Penn Leaves the White House for good

After two years as an Associate Director in the Office of Public Engagement, Kal Penn is leaving the White House again and going back to his day job in Hollywood.

Penn announced to Craig Ferguson on Ferguson’s late night chat show on Thursday that he was leaving his position in the White House but hopes to help with President Obama’s re-election campaign.

The Indo-American actor left Hollywood in 2009 and his role in the TV show, “House”, to work in Washington. He will make his Hollywood return in this season’s “How I Met Your Mother”. He left the White House once before in June 2010 to film “A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas” but returned in November to resume his White House duties. But he told Ferguson he thinks this time he’s leaving politics for good.

Penn first became involved with the Obama campaign in 2007 as a volunteer. He was an advocate of Obama’s presidential campaign in 2007 and 2008 and a member of Obama’s National Arts Policy Committee.
