Michelle Wie, who was playing well last season, appears to be in trouble as she has fallen to the 20th position in the world golf rankings.
Wie, an American golfer, has seen a big drop in her ranking and she is likely to have yet another setback when the RR Donnelley LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Founders Cup begins this week.
Since the 22-year-old is not in the roster of the Founders Cup, her ranking is sure to dip further. According to experts, the Founders Cup may put her outside the top-20 in the world golf rankings.
Wie played well last season, highlighting her growing influence in women’s golf. However, the 2012 season brought a string of disappointments to her, as she could not display her usual form.
The HSBC Women’s Champions that pitted big names did not go well for Wie. She faltered in all the four rounds and ended up carding unimpressive scores.
She finished 59th — something she did not plan to do. While she was producing worse-than-average performance, her competitors were seen shining on the course.
The current world number one, Yani Tseng has once again proved her mettle, as she has managed to maintain her top position.
Tseng has been unbeatable in most of the events she had played since last season.
Wie will graduate this month! Let’s hope she comes back!
