Interview with Supermodel Maya Murofushi
It may seem silly but the word “superwoman” comes to mind when talking to Maya Murofushi. You wonder if there is anything she cannot do. She is an actress, model, ballet dancer, stage performer and singer-songwriter . She’s fluent in English, Italian and French. Maya won the 2010 Miss World Supermodel contest and does TV commercials, films, television and campaigns for environment and animal rights. Oh, and she is a graduate of philosophy of the Universit y Edegli Studi di Siena in Italy. A Vegan and animal lover, Maya has used her win in the Miss World Supermodel contest to help promote her causes, including seminars as well.
Asiance: I am exhausted just thinking about all the things you have accomplished. How do you maintain your energy?
Maya: I think being Vegan is one of the big reason. Until I was 21, I was a horrible junk/meat eater (seriously!). That’s why I can feel a great difference now. I wake up in the early morning and exercise. My mood is always stable and positive until the end of night. It’s just amazing! Also exercise itself helps a lot. I do a lot of dance. It’s just so fun.
Asiance: I understand your mother was an opera singer and your father an orchestra conductor. Has music always been an important part of your life?
Maya: Undoubtedly. I believe that all things have same the objective and pattern in the deepest part. Indeed, I listen to music and see paintings at the museum for inspiration. Various arts give me various power. Maybe that’s why I look very versatile in photos. When I think about music, I can be very positive about the human future.
Whatever we do, beauty is inside our heart, so I don’t worry it at all. I have a great confidence in us.
Asiance: When you were young what did you first want to do?
Maya: Be a ballerina! I was a quite good dancer when I was kid. After that I wanted to become so many things….Surgeon, Magician, Profiler, Philosopher and in the end, singer.
While I was in Italy, I coincidently got a modeling job and it was something I never expected. It was very different from what I had been imagining. Everything comes at the best time…when I am ready.
Asiance: Winning the Miss World Supermodel Contest must have been thrilling. How did you feel when you learned you had won?
Maya: I wasn’t expecting to win at all from the beginning. I remember I was saying that “if I can get second-runner up, that would be great!” to my friends before I got there. So I was very surprised. Maybe that’s why I won, because I was just concentrating to do my best….
Asiance: How is it to represent Japan to the rest of the world?
Maya: It is very honorable. Just like all other countries, Japan has a distinct culture and distinct arts. The mentality of neutralism and naturalism is a very big plus. The spirit of peace and harmony, that’s what I want to bring to the rest of the world.
Asiance: You are a role model to many women. Who are your role models?
Maya: Am I a role model? That’s news! I’ve been just trying to do my best, and do what I want. My inspiration is actually not mankind, I think it’s about the harmony and beauty of this Universe and planet earth. There are artistic patterns and systems that I follow. But yes, as an actress I like Tilda Swinton and Liev Schreiber.
Asiance: Animal Rights is a cause very close to your heart. What have you done to help bring the message to people you met?
Maya: Actually, I do a lot of seminars. In my seminars, I talk things about beauty, attitude, environment and animal issues.
It’s all actually connected because it all comes from our consciousness. Whether it’s a seminar or daily c-chat, I try to let people know the facts and what they can do about it. Meanwhile, I always try to be not so persistent or harsh. We can save our planet while we make ourselves happy. Nothing is disconnected. Beauty of human consciousness and planet earth is mutual thing.
Asiance: Your modeling portfolio is very impressive. What is your favorite part of modeling?
Maya: To create a masterpiece by magic of light! I love the meaning of “Photography” in Latin. It means the picture of light. It’s all about the collaboration of photographer, make-up, hair, stylist and model to abstract something great with light and shadow. It’s just so thrilling!
Asiance: What do you look for in a man?
Maya: It’s actually quite a difficult question because when I fall in love, this guy would become my ideal. But in general, I like intellectual, artistic people.
Asiance: What advice do you have for someone who may want to follow in your footsteps?
Maya: Do your best. To compete with someone else is ridiculous. All you have to be is yourself from yesterday. Everyone can be their no.1 in their unique way. Be humble and be plain. Absorb everything.
Asiance: What do you hope to be doing five years from now?
Maya: Be an Oscar winning actress! And I would love to travel all around the world doing a lot of film and modeling jobs. I would like to achieve experiences, adventures, and as much knowledge as possible until my day of death.
