Hong Kong’s Chief Executive is voted in by an almost 1,200-strong election committee dominated by Beijing loyalists and the general public does not have the right to vote for their next leader.

We congratulate Mr Leung Chun-ying in his selection as Hong Kong’s next chief executive, and look forward to watching this dialogue further expand during his term, in anticipation of full universal suffrage in the chief executive election in 2017, and for the legislative council in 2020 in accordance with the basic law and the aspirations of the Hong Kong people.”
