Would you date..and other randomness

Hi again,

Just wanted to do a quick blog – going back to my first blog post that answers one of the questions I posted. If you haven’t read it, well here it is: http://www.asiancemagazine.com/2011/10/01/once-you-go–you-never-go-back.

Any who, the question I want to answer is “Would you date any other race besides African-American?”

So here’s the main thing – I can’t consider dating any other race because ultimately I’m in a relationship ^_^ I know, cheap cop-out. But if I wasn’t in one, I would say yes, I would consider other races. When I was in middle school I had the biggest infatuation with White guys – I mean huge – and maybe that’s because I grew up in a small town in South Carolina, so it figures, right? Not too many Asians out there..so I was drawn to what I saw around me.

What I think it comes down to is what you’re familiar with, the behavior of that person and how they were brought up that makes them attractive. For whatever reason, and for no reason at all – you choose people because of who they are. That’s why I think it’s sad to hear people or see people unaccepting of IR relationships. Stares from people who don’t like it or don’t understand cut like knives.

Just this past Vietnamese New Year’s, George and I went to the Tet (Vietnamese New Year) Fair by my house. I hadn’t been there in ages since I hate the crowds and I always feel like people stare, which is probably me being paranoid. We went anyways for the food because I love Vietnamese food and so does George. We were probably there no more than an hour waiting in line. The entire time I walked around with George next to me it felt like people were staring. Maybe because they don’t normally see too many Black people at the fairs or maybe because he was with me. I couldn’t stand it and that’s why I rarely dwell where there are too many Asians in one place – not because I don’t like them, but because it always feels like they’re staring and thinking, “she’s with a Black dude, yikes!”

Assumptions bite you in the ass, but in the end I didn’t care; however, to know that’s the vibe I get – it’s not very settling. Let’s all change the way we make others feel next time. Now that’s some food for thought.

Random, I know:
I want to go watch The Vow, George wants to watch Safe House. Who’s gonna get their way tonight? Probably George since he’s taking me on a date – he owes me. I ironed his clothes today =)

Mardi Gras is in the air down in the NOLA. If I go to any of the parades, I’ll try and take some pics for you guys, but can’t make any promises as it gets kinda craaazyy lol. Laissez les bon temps rouler!

Jeremy Lin is so hot right now! He seems to be a great guy and everyone is so happy for him! I stopped into a sporting goods store in midtown for a minute today to buy some new ice skates and they were selling one Lin NBA Shirt a minute! It was madness. I bet you wear one to bed Nancy. Incidentally, there is a great article about the very handsome Mike D’Antoni, head coach of the New York Knicks and his beautiful wife Laurel (a former model) who reside in Rye, New York! You can just tell that they make a great team and bring such positive energy to the Knicks! Jeremy is a very active participant in the philanthropic work that this couple gives so much of their time and money too. Dynamic couple and a spectacular guy to say the very least. No wonder they are loved and admired by millions!

By all accounts, the NBA and its players do a wonderful job reaching out to the community. “That’s the brilliant thing about basketball and all the teams. Everybody is willing to help. No one has ever turned us down. From guys like Steve Nash to guys that get cut from the roster, everybody comes,” Laurel says. She is one lady to be admired! No wonder Mike went crazy and proposed to her after just one month! That is how it is supposed to be and will be when you find your match. 🙂

The fact that Jeremy Lin is such a positive reflection of how talented Asian people can be in sports makes him all the more attractive. I don’t watch much basketball, only when I’m with George most of the time, but I’m glad to see his name is trending and he’s representing Asians in the best possible way. Linning!

LOL – definitely! You can have an Asian man fetish right now. I definitely think it’s very appealing to have an Asian man doing well in a sport that usually Asian males aren’t well known for playing, considering basketball is a “White/Black” sport, and we all know that. Excuse me if that sounds bad.

It’s like he’s the golden boy right now. So I definitely understand why he seems so attractive and as Asian women, we’re rushing to claim him as such..no harm in that. I bet he’s flattered that he’s making a comeback for Asian men or making them more appealing.

Hong – as you know, I’m a big fan of dating in general, interracial or not. What you and George have seems to be special. Right now, I have an Asian man fetish due to Jeremy Lin. I can have that right? It will be the topic of my next article.
