Vera Wang has denied rumors that she is having an affair with 27-year-old Olympic figure skater, Evan Lysacek.
The New York-based fashion designer, 63, whose wedding dresses have been worn by countless celebrities, announced that had separated from her businessman husband Arthur Becker two weeks before their 23rd anniversary, last July.
And last night, during an interview at 92Y, she insisted that her relationship with athlete Mr Lysacek was not to blame for her marriage breakdown and they are just good friends.
‘I’m his mentor, his true mentor I hope for his ongoing life after sports,’ she told Fern Mallis, the creator of New York Fashion Week who led the Q&A session.
It was reported that Ms Wang and Mr Lysacek were romantically involved after they were spotted at numerous events together last summer and a source claimed that they had moved in together.
Ms Wang didn’t comment further on the matter and at one point said: ‘Oh, c’mon, not personal stuff.’
Speaking about her ex-husband, she explained that he is ‘someone that will always be in my life.’
The couple got married at the Hotel Pierre in 1989 and Ms Wang, who is of Chinese heritage, revealed that she had several wedding dresses designed for the occasion.
‘In Chinese tradition, you wear a traditional dress, a red one, a pink one, and then you change into something else so there can be up to five,’ she said.
I think it’s great, she’s dating a younger man. She has the power and influence to do whatever she wants. Men do it all the time! Good for her!
