Filipino American Dancer Returns to Manila
A Filipino-American dancer who has been performing alongside international electro-pop duo LMFAO has arrived in Manila, and is set for a homecoming performance with his world-class dance group.
Ryan “Ryanimay” Conferido, whose father and mother hail from Manila and Polillo respectively, is performing alongside LMFAO during the duo’s concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday night.
Conferido is part of the Asian-American dance group Quest Crew, which won during the third season of reality dance competition “America’s Best Dance Crew.”
Conferido along with his group has since appeared in a number of LMFAO’s music videos, including the smash hit “Sexy and I Know It.”
“The concert’s going to be pretty crazy. Quest Crew’s gonna be performing along with LMFAO,” Conferido said. “It’s going to be an hour-and-a-half show. It’s our last show before we head back to the US, so we’re doing our best.”
Conferido said he is excited to be back in the Philippines, adding he especially misses the food and the hospitality of the people.
“I’m really excited to be back here. Last time we (Quest Crew) were here was almost two years ago. We did a small tour in Eastwood and other places in Manila,” Conferido said.
“I miss the food, the people. Everybody was really nice to me the first time I was here even though I don’t really speak a lot of Tagalog. It really felt like family,” he said.
On the continuing recognition of Filipino artists and performers in the international scene, Conferido said it’s a “positive stereotype” for his fellow Filipinos.
“I think a lot of them are getting more exposure as artists back in the States. It’s almost beginning to be a positive stereotype, that Filipinos are good at things, like singing and dancing and in a lot of creative respects. I feel like a lot of them are getting recognition for it, so it’s great,” he said.
