Charice’s mom Racquel Pempengco says there’s no reason for her daughter to apologize for being a lesbian, reports the Inquirer.

“I had known for quite a while,” Pempengco said.

The mother says she has accepted her daughter for who she is, but admits the two haven’t talked since April 5.

“I tried engaging her in a heart-to-heart, but she wouldn’t talk.”

She disagrees with the way Charice publicly acknowledged her sexual preference and would have preferred that her daughter keep it a secret.

“I was like, ‘Do we need to do this in front of the cameras?’ Why didn’t she tell me when I tried talking to her?”

The rift between mom and daughter is ironic since Racquel has acknowledged she too was a lesbian before she married Charice’s father. The two were divorced before he was murdered in 2011.
