Cool vs Cruel Fashion Competition winner Filipina Johana Zara
Proving that fashion can be vegan, the Humane Society has partnered with Art Institutes from the US and Canada in the 7th Annual Cool vs Cruel Competition. This year’s grand prize winner was Johana Zara from the Art Institute in Vancouver who was inspired by Fendi and created a piece that reinterpreted and replaced the fur with faux, for a runway ready look.
Selecting the winner and invited to attend were designers John Bartlett, Victoria Bartlett, Marc Bouwer, Ally Chomer, Leanne Hilgart and Elizabeth Olsen; fashion photographer Nigel Barker; PAPER Magazine editor Mickey Boardman; and The Discerning Brute blog founder Joshua Katcher. Zara earned first place with her Fendi-inspired piece using faux-fur, faux-suede and polyester chiffon.
To celebrate the competition, the reception was held at STORY, a pioneering new retail model created by Rachel Shechtman, a seasoned marketing and retail consultant known for launching innovative marketing work at Gilt, Tom’s Shoes, Bliss, Kraft, AOL and others. A 2,000 square foot store located in Manhattan’s burgeoning retail corridor of 10th Avenue, STORY is a retail space that has the point of view of a magazine, changes like a gallery and sells things like a store.

Dear Marisa, Wow! another entgihlening video. It’s great stuff Marisa. Thank you. I felt that you touched on some of the struggles I have endure for some time and I love that you explain how we create & manifest these struggles in the first place, and how we can bring about significant change for ourselves by understanding how these issues and conditions arises. What I find even more exciting, is that you explain clearly & simply how to self correct, and what is required from ourselves to create a healthy & balanced mind set & attitude. I look forward to applying a more positive relationship with myself first and equally with my children. With grattitude. Love Light & Blessing to you Marisa. Rosen
