Taiwan’s Eva Air began flying its newest “Hello Kitty jet” to the US on Wednesday, putting a Boeing 777-300ER with the image of the cartoon feline on its route between Taipei and Los Angeles.

The flight was piloted by EVA chairman K.W. Chang.

EVA says the Boeing 777-300ER sports a “Hello Kitty Hand-in-Hand” livery that will be used on three of EVA’s 17 regular weekly flights between LAX and Taipei’s Taoyuan International Airport (TPE).

Explaining the rationale for its uniquely designed aircraft, EVA says chairman KW Chang “initiated Hello Kitty jets to make flying fun and passengers love them.”

EVA adds its Hello Kitty jets come with their own “Hello Kitty jet experience” that “begins at airport check-in with Hello Kitty boarding passes and baggage stickers. Flight attendants on the special-livery jets wear pink aprons with Hello Kitty designs and passengers are treated to “more than 100 in-flight service items including headrest covers, pillows, tissue, hand cream, liquid hand soap, napkins, paper cups, utensils, snacks and meals.”

EVA already flies five other Hello Kitty-themed aircraft on shorter intra-Asia routes, including one to the U.S. territory of Guam.

A member of Star Alliance, EVA includes Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, San Francisco, Toronto and Vancouver among its North American gateways.
