Mirai Nagasu emotionally performed at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships gala, hours after she was left off the U.S. Olympic Team on Jan. 12.
Nagasu, who finished fourth at the 2010 Olympics, was third at the U.S. Championships on Jan. 11. U.S. Figure Skating, which does not name its team solely off nationals results, chose fourth-place Ashley Wagner for its three-woman team along with first- and second-place finishers Gracie Gold and Polina Edmunds.
Though Nagasu would not be going to Sochi, she opted to join other skaters who were chosen for the Olympics as part of a gala at TD Garden in Boston on Sunday night.
“I’m disappointed in the [Olympic Team] decision,” Nagasu said in a statement through U.S. Figure Skating on Sunday, her only comments on the situation. “Though I may not agree with it, I have to respect the decision the federation made.”
