Backstage with Michael Phelps at Golden Goggles
We had a chance to catch up with Michael Phelps after he took home the Male Athlete of the Year Award at the Golden Goggles Awards. Though he’s recognized worldwide for only wearing a Speedo, he looked dapper and fit in his 3 piece, Tom Ford suit. Here’s what he had to say on what he’s doing since his retirement.
What are your immediate plans?
I have to go home and do jury duty, spending time at home with my family. It’s not too often that we can all get together. This holiday is going to be fun. It’s the kick off to the holiday season. Looking forward to having everyone at my house.
How’s your golf game?
I’ve taken 2 weeks off from golf. I just took a break to travel a little.
How are the coaches different?
They are passionate about the game, know exactly what they want and they are going to force it out of you.
What’s been the best memory you’ve had from your career?
I have a lot of memories I will have with me forever. It’s hard to pick one. It really has been a dream come true for me. It’s been everything I’ve ever wanted to do.
What are some of the ways you’re going to keep yourself busy now?
I’ve actually swam more over the last couple of months than I have after any other Olympics. It’s a good time for me to get away from everything. I’m still trying to find ways to stay in shape and stay attached to the water. It’s great when I can get into the water when I want and to get out of the water when I want. I usually go by myself for 20-30 minutes.
