Academy of Art University 2013 Fall/Winter NYFW

The talented students from Academy of Art University debuted their show at Lincoln Center yesterday. Their collection features a wide range of fall/winter trends.

James Thai — is one of the few undergraduate students in the show. His work represented animals turning into flowers. To create the pattern, he burned leather to create blended imagery of flowers and fauna. The burned leather turned out to be different shades of gold, which perfectly captured the characteristics of animals.

Chenxi Li — Grew up in Zhengzhou City, Chenxi and took inspiration from traditional Chinese armor. Featuring exaggerated silhouettes, voluminous shoulder and furry textile, the collection represented a strong personality, which reminded people of the famous ancient Chinese heroine—Mulan.

Amanda Nerving — Amanda assisted Janine M. Villa with the accessories in her collection. She was inspired by the colors and patterns found in the vintage Welsh blankets. Spending the past few months knitting bits and pieces, Amanda successfully embellished Villa’s collection and added a softer tone to the rich texture.
