While the golfing world is grappling with the troubles of Tiger Woods, his niece could not be in a happier place trying to defend her RACV Ladies Masters crown.

Her first professional victory at Royal Pines a year ago gave her a huge confidence surge for a season which finished in style in the US with qualification for the top-tier LPGA Tour.

Woods flies in today to build on a Gold Coast fan following that has been captivated by both her impressive game and humble, effervescent demeanor on her previous two visits.

A year ago, the girl with the superstar name proved she was a star in her own right by jumping out of golf’s greatest shadow.

Her career-changing moment was summarized with a killer smile after she showed true grit with three birdies over the final nine holes.

“Now I have a name of my own, a title, a win. I showed I can play awesome and I’m not just a name,” Woods said with a mix of authority and glee.

Tiger Woods tweeted his admiration last December when his niece came through the rigors of Q-school to win her playing rights on the LPGA Tour.

“So proud of you @Cheyenne_Woods! Talent & persistence, you have them both,” Tiger tweeted.
