Lone Star Follies: An All Texas (in NYC) Burlesque Spectacular

Many people are surprised to learn that I actually went to junior high and high school in the Dallas, Texas area. One doesn’t really think of Asians in Texas. California, yes. But Texas? Well, little do people know, there is quite a large Vietnamese population where I grew up and an even larger Chinese population in Houston, Texas where I also have lived.

Now that I’ve left Texas for so long (since summer of 1994) and have sludged away in NYC for 13 years I’ve come to really be fond of my trips home to the big state. There are many things about Texas that I appreciate now, mostly food-related (LOL), but people are much friendly and I think the milieu is much more diverse now than it was when I grew up.

There are quite a few burlesque performers here in NYC who are originally from Texas, and when I found out that the girls of the famous Ruby Revue from Dallas were coming through the big apple, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to do an all-Texan show this weekend at Stage 72 (formerly The Triad Theater) on the Upper West Side.

If you remember the show “Ugly Betty”, in Season 4, Episode 13 “Chica and the Man”, Vanessa Williams sings in a cabaret and that scene was filmed at Stage 72! It is a beautiful vaudeville style theater with luscious red velvet curtains, cabaret tables and chairs, and a second level balcony. It is the perfect setting for any night time entertainment especially burlesque! I’ve performed there many times myself, in fact, the previous video clip that I posted was filmed at the same place!

I’ve rounded up all the Texas performers here in NYC for one night of Texas fun. Not only are the Ruby Revue girls here but Perle Noire who is a regular performer with Dita Von Teese on her “Strip Strip Hooray” tour, will also be performing! The MCs of the evening are known as “The Reformed Whores”, country girls with ukelelees with hearts of heart but potty mouths to go with their big hair.

There is a special $5 discount for fans and readers of Asiance. Just type in “Yeehaw” for the online ticketing discount.
