Stella M. Tsai, a business litigation partner with Archer & Greiner, P.C. in Philadelphia, was recently installed as the 2011 President of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Pennsylvania (APABA-PA) at its Lunar New Year Banquet.

APABA-PA’s mission is to support the advancement of Asian Pacific American attorneys throughout the Commonwealth and to promote justice, equity and legal access for all Asian Pacific American communities. To fulfill this mission, APABA-PA, an affiliate of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, engages in professional development, advocacy, education, policy development, community outreach and philanthropy.

Among its philanthropic initiatives, APABA-PA annually awards the Hon. William Marutani Fellowship to one or more local first-year law students who seek to enter public service. The Fellowship was created to honor the legacy of the late Judge Marutani, a distinguished jurist and civil rights advocate who served as the first Asian American judge in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In March 2011, the APABA-PA Executive Committee voted to fully endow the Marutani Fellowship at the Philadelphia Bar Foundation.

APABA-PA also recently hosted a networking reception and fundraiser for Japanese tsunami and earthquake relief, raising more than $6,000 through personal donations and matching funds.

A former Chair of Administrative Law, now Social Services, at the City of Philadelphia Law Department, Ms. Tsai concentrates her practice on business litigation, representing public sector, nonprofit and commercial clients with an emphasis on ethics and regulatory compliance. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s House of Delegates and the Family Planning Council’s Board of Directors. She serves as a Vice-Chair of the Philadelphia Zoning Code Commission and Chair of the ZCC’s Civic Engagement Committee. She received the Philadelphia Bar Association Young Lawyer Divison’s Sean Peretta Award for community service and the University of Pennsylvania Law School Law Alumni Society Award of Merit, and was named a Woman of Distinction by the Philadelphia Business Journal.
