“Trishna,” starring Freida Pinto, and Shekhar Kapur’s documentary “Bollywood: The Greatest Love Story Ever Told,” are among the India-themed films chosen for this year’s Hawaii International Film Festival.
The festival’s Spring Showcase is now in its 15th year and takes place from April 13-19. Films screening during the Spring Showcase also include “Agent Vinod” and “Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu.”
Michael Winterbottom’s “Trishna” is an Indian retelling of “Tess of the d’Urbervilles.” Taking place in contemporary Rajasthan, the tragic love story depicts a sheltered Indian village girl who falls in love with a spoiled, young British businessman when she goes to work for his father’s hotel business. It stars Pinto with British Pakistani actor Riz Ahmed of “Four Lions.”
The HIFF takes place at the Regal Dole Cannery Stadium 18 Theaters in Honolulu. For information, visit www.hiff.org.
