Christine Chen, a civil rights activist for Asian Pacific Islander Americans, talked about the population’s contributions to society during an Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month observance program today at the Bob Jones Auditorium on Redstone Arsenal.

According to arsenal officials, one of Chen’s goals is to uplift the APIA heritage and contributions as well as integrate their stories into American history and culture.

She was profiled by Newsweek in 2001 as one of 15 women who will shape America’s new century and served from 2001-05 as national executive director of the Organization of Chinese Americans, one of the leading APIA civil rights organizations in the country.
