It’s the Asian Hall of Fame Inductees!

Tonight, in Seattle, The Asian Hall of Fame inducted the latest round of honorees. They were Politician Norman Mineta, Actress Grace Park, Swimmer Nathan Adrian and NFL Player Manu Tuiasosopo.

I managed to get a quick question in for the fans at the press conference.

I asked Nathan Adrian what it was like to grow up in Bremerton (here in WA), surrounded by water and the sea, and the influence on his swimming.

He said during his childhood, one of his influences to learn to swim was constantly being on the docks or playing water activities with his family. He wanted to prevent himself from drowning. He mentioned a statistic that 10 people drown a day.

He also said in the Q&A that his cultural background seemed to affect everything, and he identified as ‘Hapa’.

During the Olympics, Nathan would follow what year in the Chinese calendar it was. In 2012, he remembers it as the Year of the Dragon.
