Marisa Sung’s Rules of Etiquette for the Modern World Number 34
When you contact me on the phone I do not want to hear you order your coffee, lunch, dinner or yell at your kids=”go to your room” so loud that my eardrum is about to burst!! If you need to take a bathroom break, order food and/or yell at your spouse and kids, please kindly say that you have to excuse yourself and that we can chat later. I have heard toilets flushing, chatter about nails and hair service, screaming at children, and chatting with an acquaintance all while on the phone with me when you are the one who contacted me!! I really don’t have any time to listen to you run your errands on my time! Also, as I am hearing impaired I do not appreciate this confusion and/or putting me on speaker phone against my will! This happens much less often now that I have “cleaned house” with friends.
