Ebola Scare on US Airways Flight 845 to Punta Cana

An Ebola scare on a US Airways flight leaving Philadelphia prompted officials to meet the plane when it arrived in the Dominican Republic after a passenger reportedly said he had Ebola. US Airways flight 845 to Punta Cana was inspected upon arriving Wednesday “due to a possible health issue on board,” the airline said in a statement.

An airline spokesperson told ABC News the report they have is that another passenger heard the comment and alerted a flight attendant. The FA then alerted the captain. The comment was made while the flight was on approach to its final destination.

Video shot by a passenger and posted to YouTube shows a team in hazmat suits entering the plane. In the video, a flight attendant told passengers that the hazmat team boarding the plane would look worse than it was. “I think the man that has said this is an idiot,” she said. Later in the video, a man appearing to be led out of the plane by the hazmat team says, “I ain’t from Africa.”

Ebola Could Be ‘World’s Next AIDS,’ CDC Director Warns.

Dominican Republic officials cleared the plane after checking it in adherence with category_idelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to the airline. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused but the safety of our customers and employees is our first priority,” read the airline’s statement. On Saturday, a CDC crew in hazmat gear met a plane arriving in Newark, New Jersey, from Belgium after a sickened man triggered fears that he might have had Ebola. He later tested negative for the disease.

And you ask why I am a Germaphobe?? 🙁

This is the same type of passenger who makes a big mess in the washroom and assumes it’s someone elses responsibility to clean up. Not sure it’s the airline or the passenger who should be put on your “no fly” list. But I agree with you that travel is a germophobe nightmare.

Clearly it is not the fault of US Airways as they reacted to this situation brilliantly! However, it seems to always be the discount commercial airlines that attract these lunatics. I am too afraid of being forced to sit next to an individual of his caliber in such tight quarters.

BTW There are many sanitizer products out there that come in mini sizes. I have my war chest of germ killers and sanitizers in my handbag at all times. Also, they sell toilet seat covers in plastic and paper. They are great because they are disposable and very light and small to carry! 🙂

    Mellow Yellow

You must take responsibility for your own health and hygiene! So many workers are lazy today and do not thoroughly clean and/or perform the tasks of their job! In other words, clean is not clean enough! And pallleeeaassse DO NOT SPRINKLE WHEN YOU TINKLE!! 🙁

Public transit! Can you imagine what airplanes would look like if they were run by the Government! Like buses and the subway….good for the public….but not for me….so I guess I’m not considered a member of the “public”?
