Hollywood Beauty & Innovative Treatments at Erno Laszlo Institute in Soho
This past week I visited the well-known “House of Beauty” as it has been referred to since the days of Marilyn Monroe and Greta Garbo, who were among the many celebrities and stars that were patients of Dr. Erno Laszlo. The Erno Laszlo Institute, not only offers a plethora of skincare lines like their Transphuse and Firmarine collections, addressing pretty much every possible skin care concern, but also has a luxurious and elegant spa and treatment area which is only available to members.
I had the opportunity to experience a customized Signature Facial and enjoyed all the perks of membership for the afternoon, and must admit, becoming a member definitely has its perks; unlimited treatments at the Institute along with full use of the Art Deco-style mezzanine lounge as well as their LED/light therapy and makeup stations. The Institute also has some of the best trained aestheticians, and I can attest to this after spending an hour with my assigned Skin Therapist, Eliana Restrepo. Upon meeting, she inquired about my concerns and skin care routine and history. We then descended the grand spiral staircase to another level of glamourous and super deluxe treatment rooms, all six rooms laid out spaciously in an octagon shape. Each room simple and elegant, decorated individually with unique artwork and decked out with silky soft sheets and heated beds.
All treatments/facials are tailored to each individual in line with the Erno Laszlo philosophy, depending on your skin type and needs, but all include a combination of high potency Erno Laszlo Super Serums, cellular regenerating peels or microdermabrasion and advanced technology treatments like oxygen and high frequency. My Skin Therapist began with a comprehensive skin analysis to create my customized facial regimen which included a cleansing (prepping the skin), followed by very thorough extractions in which she used a combination of her hands and a lancet, leaving no pore clogged! Next she passed over my freshly opened pores a high frequency device to kill any bacteria and then prepared an enzyme peel to exfoliate my dead skin cells in a gentle less irritating manner than other peels like glycolic. Afterwards to repair and revitalize, oxygen infused with vitamins was pumped over my skin followed by a Hydra Therapy Vitality Mask to plump and hydrate my parched and dull face. Lastly, a high potency professional-strength Super Serum was selected for my skin type and I learned that all the serums are only for use in-house and are made with a high concentration of active ingredients without preservatives and replaced every 30 days. They are refrigerated and include Anti-Wrinkle and Plumping Concentrate, Intensive Brightening and Radiance Serum, Firming and Lifting Intensive Serum, and Highly Concentrated Moisture Serum. I was given a mini vial of this Moisture Serum to use at home along with a little bag of small Erno Laszlo samples based on my Skin Therapists’ recommendations. My skin looked radiant and felt smooth and supple.
After my heavenly and relaxing facial, I was taken to a quaint and chicly decorated dimly lit room with two state of the art light machines. I sat on the perfectly sized reclining leather sofa while a spectrum of lights rotated over my face for fifteen minutes. Depending on your skin type you can receive either green, mixed, red or blue light. It is one of only a few places in NYC with these sophisticated light therapy machines.
Next, it was time for my body to catch up to my rejuvenated face. I headed over to the PureFlow room which has two treatments, Pure Oxygen (hyperbaric therapy) and Pure Pulse, both super innovative and unique treatments which i had never heard of until now.
Pure Pulse is a synchronized compression therapy that boosts the cardiovascular and lymphatic system, making this an excellent choice for athletes and those with injuries, along with people looking to detox. A single session, which is 45 minutes can improve the elimination of lactic acid, toxins and other wastes from the body. Although a bit strange at first (three sets of padded bands are strapped onto your legs and lower torso), the feeling soon passes as the bands strongly compress to the beat of your heart. After the session I felt pleasantly energized and my muscles felt lighter and less stiff. It is a great treatment to improve circulation and get blood flowing for an additional glow, to compliment that glowing skin.
