The new feature-length documentary TRICKED exposes the realities of the American sex trafficking industry and premiered on December 13 at 7 PM at the Quad Cinema in New York City. Award-winning filmmaker Jane Wells (The Devil Came on Horseback) and John-Keith Wasson (Surviving Hitler: A Love Story) follow the pimps, the johns, the girls, the parents and the law enforcement agents fighting trafficking, providing unprecedented access into their worlds and creating a comprehensive portrait of the American sex industry today. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion on sex trafficking with the film’s directors, leading human trafficking advocates, celebrity activists, sex trafficking survivors and law enforcement officials. TRICKED will be released by renowned film and video distributor Kino Lorber, Inc.
Between 100,000 and 300,000 children are trafficked in the United States alone. The average age of girls who enter the U.S. sex trafficking industry is 12 to 14, with girls as young as nine years old controlled by pimps and forced to perform sexual acts. President Obama has made ending human trafficking a top priority of his administration, calling it a form of “modern slavery” that “ought to concern every person because it’s a debasement of our common humanity.”
“With TRICKED we took a comprehensive approach to the issue of sex trafficking in the U.S. to tackle the staggering misconceptions about the issue, raise awareness about the industry and create a powerful call to action to promote systemic change,” said Jane Wells, producer and co-director of the film. Wells previously produced the award-winning documentary The Devil Came on Horseback, one of the first films that documented the ongoing genocide in Darfur.
TRICKED brings attention to the epidemic of sex trafficking, a shockingly prolific issue that affects every city in the country. The documentary features real life pimps, johns, survivors, parents and law enforcement agents in several cities including New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Boston, Denver, Chicago and Houston.
TRICKED is an initiative of 3 Generations, a nonprofit organization that uses the power of storytelling to amplify the voices of survivors, create witnesses and inspire change. 3 Generations uses film, video and written testimony to record and share stories of survivors of atrocities from around the world.
