Calling all Asian American Aspiring Filmmakers
ASIANCE Magazine has been a sponsor of the 72 Hour Film Shootout for the past 3 years. Presented by Asian CineVision and the AAFilmlab, the Film Shootout is a National Competition where teams have 72 hours to write, edit, shoot, and produce a 6 minute short film. The event has grown tremendously with the competition growing stiffer each year. Case in point, last year’s Best Actress went to Lynn Chen for her role in “Fly Me Home”.
Each year ASIANCE Magazine follows a group of filmmakers. Last year our luck rubbed off (and vice versa) on Team Kiko, which won the top award: Grand Jury Award for the the film “Mr. Kiss”. Director Francisco Aliwalas also won 2 Individual Awards; Best Director and Best Editor for the movie, a sci fi romance about a man finding authentic love in a synthetic being.
Director Aliwalas, who describes his style similar to Won Kar Wai but with a very American sensibility, let us piggyback his shoot. No fancy equipment, Aliwalas directs actors Arthur Acunna and Rosanne Ma in a sensual, alluring and romantic account of finding love.
