Greenwhich Village.
Greenwhich Village is located in the southern part of Manhattan and is an absolutely great place to go shopping while in New York. It is no secret that New York holds many great offers for tourists but the headache usually lies in finding the great places in a city that often seem quite overwhelming when you first arrive, which seems to me has resulted in the fact that tourists stay in the area they know best from their tour category_ide        (Tourist Center) as I like to call, the area around the Empire State Building on 5th Av, that is a shame because New York has far greater things to offer than souvenir shops.

I have taken a stroll through the Greenwhich Village to get a feel for the place and spot out some of the amazing shopping possibilities. Take the yellow line and get off at Canal St. When you get out of the subway you’ll be surrounded by little stands selling designer bags and sunglasses but beware most of it, if not all, is counterfeit. However it brings a busy but cozy atmosphere that definitely adds to the charm of the area. Walk toward Grand St and this is where the shopping-heaven begins for any fashionista of the world. My favorite store on Grand St is the little shop Mirror Mirror on the Wall; they sell jewelry made in excellent quality and design and are worth the trip alone. For tourists traveling on a budget this shop is ideal because the prices are definitely reasonable and the staff is very friendly. On Grand St you will also find the exquisite Yuhji Vamamoto, the store is very classy with an interesting twist that definitely makes it worth a look as the designer for instance mixes a classic business suit with animal print.
Â
On Greene St you will find the store Anna Sui. As soon as you walk inside it’s as if you have entered a different world: the lights are dampened and the colors are warm and welcoming. Anna Suis design is quite fascinating and very different from what you usually see. Even if you don’t plan to buy anything I would recommend visiting the store because the atmosphere is an experience in itself and again the staff is very friendly and helpful.
Â
If you are looking for a pair of great jeans I would recommend Runway. It’s a great store with many different styles, colors and patterns and jeans is far from the only thing they have. The store has a very “cool†feel to it and you can spend plenty of time looking through their rather packed space. It is rather pricey but my experience tells me that when it comes to jeans that extra penny is well spent because they simply fit better and you will ware them over and over again.
Â
The Greenwhich Village area is filled with a mixture of luxurious and small unique stores that creates a posh yet authentic atmosphere and is not an area to be missed while in New York. The stores I have chosen to highlight are just the tip of the iceberg of high fashion stores such as Versace, Kate Spade, Louis Vuitton and Alpana Bawa that decorates the area. Take a walking tour through Greenwhich Village and experience one of the hippest most happening places in New York City.Â
