The Many Uses of Black Charcoal

I have “spoken” to you all before about my dog, Mugi, who died an untimely death this summer.

Well, everyone told me that the best way to cope with the devastating sense of loss was to get another dog. I resisted and resisted because I didn’t think it would be possible for me.

And then I saw this puppy, the same breed, color and markings as Mugi was………
…and I loved him right away!

So now I have this little “new” Mugi………and I have forgotten how impulsive
and reckless puppies are…….

Last week he became 6 months old and it was time to be responsible and take him to the doctor to be neutered. The vet kept him overnight and when I picked him up the next day, I was surprised when I was handed a bottle of pain pills.

The vet explained that they had also removed the prostate gland – after all, Mugi wasn’t going to need it & it was one less part of him that might get cancer. If I thought that Mugi was showing signs of being uncomfortable, I was told to give him one of these pills.

After Mugi got home he proceeded to sleep the rest of the day and following night,so when I woke up in the morning and checked on him, I was so relieved to see him behaving completely normal, that I forgot I had left the little bottle of pills on the kitchen counter, and I went cheerfully off to work.

When I got home at the end of the day, Mugi was staggering around the apartment – and the little plastic bottle that had been full of pills was on the floor, chewed almost beyond recognition, and there was not a pill to be seen!

I panicked……I called the vet and told him what had happened and he at once directed me to the nearest emergency room. Eating all those pills had poisoned Mugi and he had to be treated exactly as a child would be treated – they pumped his stomach full of charcoal. Black charcoal was going down his throat and black “stuff” was coming out the other end. And the charcoal saved his life!

Can you imagine? This is the same charcoal that I use as a face-washing product which I found in Tokyo on my last trip to Japan. It is very popular right now & it only costs about $12. It says on the front of the tube – “Charcoal Face Washing Foam”! And it is just as black as what they gave Mugi to absorb the pills that he had eaten. It extracts impurities from the skin using the same mechanism as you rub it on, and then when it is rinsed off, the effluvia from the skin goes right down the drain. “Out the other end,” so to speak!
