The Take Dance Review
The Take Dance Company had three wonderful nights of choreographed “electric” (as some have described) dancing at the Miller Theater at Columbia University last week. I was lucky to attend a performance. Their dance moves and sets are beautifully choreographed by Takehiro Ueyama, who is able to capture and mix eclectic themes and beautiful classic pieces.
From African and Eastern drumming music filled with modern beats, joyous dancing and energetic themes next to a set of Bach inspired moves with the theme of love and romance, sadness and despair as a man and woman danced across the stage in formal wear, it was all breathtaking. The costumes were amazing – bright and pastel to capture the lighthearted ensemble dancing and also simple yet mysterious to enhance the melancholy pieces which brought tears to the audiences eyes. The whole show was excellent and moving, exciting and enthralling, with a true sense of the East meeting West. I would recommend anyone to catch the group on tour when they can! – Review by Shannon Lin
