It appears District Attorney Kamala Harris’ lead in the attorney general race

It appears District Attorney Kamala Harris’ lead in the attorney general race is widening among Democrats, mostly thanks to Bay Area voters.

In a David Binder survey conducted April 12-14 with 500 voters likely to participate in the June 2010 Democratic primary, Harris appears to have a 25 percent share of Democratic voters, up from 16 percent in February.

The next closest candidate, according to the poll, is former LA City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo with 9 percent. Chris Kelly, who has been hitting Harris hard with attack ads, went from 9 percent in February to 2 percent in the latest poll. About half of likely voters still remain undecided.

“Harris’ large lead stems from an overwhelming advantage that she maintains in the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area, where she receives 43% of the vote, compared to no more than 6% for any other candidate,” Binder wrote in the summary.

Kamala is South Asian and African American. If she wins, she’ll be the first female and first African-American and first Asian American Attorney General in California history.
