Shigeyuki Kihara – Living Photographs

Shigeyuki Kihara, a visual and performance artist, curator and freelance fashion editor shows her solo installation “Shigeyuki Kihara: Living Photographs” at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Shigeyuki, of Japanese and Samoan parentage, came to New Zealand in 1989 and is the recipient of the Emerging Pacific Artist Award from Creative New Zealand Arts Council in 2003. Her work is in numerous public collections including: Te Papa Tongarewa Museum of New Zealand, Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation (Sydney) and University of Cambridge Museum of Archeology and Anthropology (UK). In 2007, two of her works were purchased by The Metropolitan Museum. Shigeyuki is also actively involved in grass roots projects aiming to empower ‘Third Gender’ communities in the Pacific. Above is Shigeyuki Kihara’s exhibit “Living Photographs” (Yes that is she) currently being shown at The Metropolitan Museum of Art from October 7, 2008 – “ February 1, 2009.
