Director Danny Boyle of Slumdog Millionaire most likely to win Oscar
Boyle was among the five nominees singled out by the Directors Guild of America for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for the year 2008. The DGA will pick its winner on January 31 and the organization's announcement will be closely watched as the DGA winner usually goes on to win the Academy Award for Best Director as well. In fact, in its 60-year history the DGA's pick also won the Oscar a stunning 54 times. Last year, Joel and Ethan Coen won the DGA award as well as the Oscar for directing No Country For Old Men. Slumdog Millionaire also swept The Critics' Choice Awards with Danny winning Best Director. The Critics' Choice Awards, organized by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, is one of the most reliable predictors of Oscar success. In the last 10 years, 70% of the critics' winners have gone on to collect Academy Awards. Nominations for the Oscars are announced on 22 January. Odds appear to be in his favor.
