Slumdog kiddies celebrated at home

The real-life slum dwellers from the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire are to be given a flat each by the city of Mumbai in recognition of the honour they have brought to the city.

The childred were discovered in the slums that were showcased in the film.

Of course it’s not without controversy, Dr Ashwani Kumar, Political Scientist at Tata Institute of Social Sciences and London School of Economics says, "It is clear that the government is trying to ride the populist wave of euphoria that has been generated by the film at a time when elections are around the corner."
