Fashion Week Fall 2009 Collection – Project Runway

Viviane, Joanne and Leslie traveled to New York City to see the Project Runway show during Fashion Week. A friend works for the show and offered them tickets, giving them an excuse to plan a girls’ weekend in the fashion capital of the world. This was their first fashion show.

Viviane is a Chinese American from Los Angeles. She attends the University of Pennsylvania where she is studying to be an Optometrist. Viviane doesn’t believe in brands. As a student who needs to manage a student budget while still looking fashionable, she has decided to turn to small boutique shops to help her create a signature look of preppy New England style with a twist of relaxed California warmth.

Joanne is also a Chinese American from Los Angeles. She is working towards a Masters degree at UCLA. Looking at the dresses and sweaters designed by the final three finalists of Project Runway, Joanne was inspired and got a few ideas to take back to her own tailor. Joanne’s look is quite unique, having been formed in Shanghai while working with her personal tailor. “I saw some things that I liked and I worked with my tailor and I had him make it.” Joanne has created a young and sophisticated look that matches her own mentality, causing some to take notice while walking through the tents at Bryant Park.

Leslie is a Chinese American from Pasadena, California. A practicing attorney for a little over a year, she was pleased to take a break from her busy life to enjoy a weekend at Fashion Week. Excited about being at her first fashion show, Leslie went through multiple wardrobe changes before deciding on a springy and fun look to celebrate a girls’ weekend in New York City. Thankfully, the weather inside of the Bryant Park tent was much warmer than the frigid air outside.
