Laura Ling has been hired to host “E! Investigates,” a series of hour long programs that will take on a harder edge. Her first two programs will explore the causes of teenage suicide and the lives of military wives.

The channel already commissions episodes of “E! Investigates” on topics like famous missing persons cases and lottery winners. Ms. Ling’s programs will begin on Dec. 8.

Laura left Current TV last fall, shortly after being released from North Korea, because she wanted to take time off and write about her experience.
