Korean pop star Rain has been sued in an American court for failing to pay back a gambling debt of US$150,000 (S$194,958) he owed to a Korean-American named Andrew Kim.
According to the report, Rain often placed bets at a Bellagio Hotel casino in Las Vegas, and Mr. Kim lent Rain US$150,000 as gambling money in June 2007 which the Korean Wave star has not returned.
What is controversial is a suggestion in the court document Mr Kim filed that Rain is a habitual gambler.
If true, Rain’s public reputation is likely to be seriously undermined as he has consistently promoted his image as a hardworking singer who has overcome all personal obstacles to rise to the top.
J Tune Entertainment, representing Rain, said the allegations are groundless, denying that the pop star habitually gambled in Las Vegas. — THE KOREA HERALD/ANN
